Neurons Can Fly is a research program developed and led by the Cai Lab at the University of Michigan (Department of Cell & Developmental Biology, Biophysics, and Michigan Neuroscience Institute). This program provides interdisciplinary STEM training utilizing Drosophila melanogaster (fruit fly) as the model organism, providing high school students with lab experience in neuroanatomy, genetics, immunohistology, electrophysiology, microscopy, image processing, neural informatics, and more! Students will experience life as undergraduates by staying in the dorm and exploring the best Ann Arbor has to offer during activities outside of the classroom. By providing this educational and social experience, we'll excite and inspire the next generation of students to pursue higher education in Neuroscience or related fields.

In partnership with Wolverine Pathways and the Center for Educational Outreach, Neurons Can Fly also provides research experiences for highly motivated high school students from under-resourced communities. Please donate here to provide scholarships to those students in financial need!
